The logic of Indian television Ads (Part-1)

How often do you get annoyed by an advertisement that you are being forced to watch when your favorite movie's climax is about to come? (Maryan, for instance). The obvious response of a typical Indian would be to shift between the channels until all the crappy advertisements between the crappy shows are done and dusted. On the other hand, this distress follows us into the online platforms too. Like any other citizen, I hate watching advertisements that are unwanted and irrelevant to the current situation. (Credits: Mr.Ambi (a) Anniyan (a) Remo). However, in this blog, I would like to take a deeper look into what the companies are actually trying to convey to the viewers of the Philo Taylor Farnsworth invention.

Let's start with the edibles. We know that veggies are good for health. But, have you ever wondered how the cookie makers manage to incorporate their goodness into a solid block of flour. Well, the real answer is behind the pack itself. Such pack-turnings would not only reveal the ingredients but, also the way big corporates make their turnover.

Moving on to the next irrelevant category of ads, the body cleaners. It is a useless commodity only to the hydrophobic people. Such a demanding commodity requires a huge quantity of raw-material to fulfill the needs of the current population. But the only query is the source of vegetables like shallot and fruits like papaya to make a shampoo that chases away dandruff and a bar of soap that gives glowing skin.

Advertisements tend to get creepy at times. There have been instances of bursting heads on eating toffee and aliens coming down for signature perfumes. Ads have also crossed the limits not once, but several times. From the sensual advertisement of clothes to the demonstration of condoms to a girl celebrating the ditching of her boyfriend by buying pizza, the limits are consistently broken on a huge margin (#feminism).

This topic may provoke offensive thoughts about such companies. But the motto is to provoke questions about the products we consume. Honestly speaking, we as the viewers are also responsible for not regulating the telecast of such irresponsibly shot and promoted advertisements.
